New Early Help Assessment - Coming Soon....
We wanted to update you on the progress partners are making towards the proposed go-live date of April 2022 for the new Early Help Assessment. There are a number of workstreams established; Quality and Performance, Systems and Development and Service User Engagement all of which report to a partnership project group and the Prevention and Early Help Partnership.
The current focus of work for each workstream is as follows:
- The Early Help Assessment is currently being built into Liquid Logic.
- A range of partners will be 'testing' the new Early Help Assessment in Liquid Logic by creating an online account and working through the Assessment. Testing is scheduled for February 2022.
- Privacy Notices are being reviewed and production of a family friendly version that partners can share with families is in development.
- Partners have approved the Early Help Assessment Guidance which will accompany the new Assessment.
- Workforce Development and Early Help colleagues are beginning to develop the content of the Staff Briefings, informed by what partners think need to be the main focus. Staff Briefings will be delivered prior to go-live during March/April 2022
- Children, Young People (CYP) and Parent and Carers (P/C) who volunteer for ‘United Voice’ and work with ‘Investing in Children’ are co-producing a video/animation for families to promote Early Help in Durham. A family friendly leaflet will then be produced following this.

Talking to your child about online sexual harassment – a new guide
The Children’s Commissioner has released a new resource: ‘talking to your child about online sexual harassment: a guide for parents’.
The guide highlights the findings direct from young people – there are two important take-home messages:
- Talk early, talk often – children want an age-appropriate conversation that evolves over time in line with their growing maturity
- Create the culture before the crisis. Children have told us they want their mums and dads (carers) to create a safe, judgement-free space for them to talk about these issues.
The guide offers some practical tips about how to go about this.

Social Media and Online Safety
The BBC reports that a new government-backed campaign, No place to hide, is calling on social media platforms to stop rolling out end-to-end-encryption (E2EE) until they have the technology in place to ensure children will not be put at greater risk as a result. It is also calling on platforms to show that the changes will not make it easier for child sex abusers to: groom children; make, share or view sexual images of children; and avoid detection by law enforcement agencies.

Children’s Mental Health Week
(7-13 February 2022)
Children's Mental Health Week is taking place on 7-13 February 2022. This year's theme is Growing Together.
Children (and adults) will be encouraged to consider how they have grown, and how they can help others to grow.
A number of free resources that can be adapted for use in school, for home-schooling, online lessons or independent learning can be found on the campaign website:

The DSCP Training Offer is now focused on the coordination and commissioning of our multi-agency training as opposed to delivery. Our Training Coordinator Amy Armstrong continually looks at enhancing the program.
There are some really exciting events around Child Sexual Abuse/Harm, Neglect, Parental Substance Misuse and Trauma Informed Practice. Keep an eye out for upcoming circulations, and other sessions being introduced, but in the meantime here's what's available.
When booking our training events you will see that the DSCP are no longer using Survey Monkey, but now use Microsoft Forms. This should be really straightforward for you with good functionality and links to the new website when we go live in early Summer 2022, making the whole process more streamlined than before.
